Sana Kisan Bikas Laghubitta Bittiyasanstha Ltd (SKBBL) has partnered with UKaid Sakchyam Access to Finance Programme (Sakchyam) to introduce “Digitization of SFACLs and Expansion of Access to Finance in Karnali Province of Nepal” project, to cater to smallholder farmers in the Karnali Province. Mr. Nirmal Dahal, Team Leader of Sakchyam along with Dr. Shiva Ram Prasad Koirala, CEO of SKBBL, signed and exchanged certificates on behalf of their respective organizations on 18th of January, in the presence of Honorable Chief Minister of Karnali Province Mr. Mahendra Bahadur Shahi and Minister of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperative of Karnali Province Ms. Bimala K.C. to officially launch the project.
“Sakchyam is very excited to be starting this partnership with an entity like Sana Kisan which has been tirelessly working towards uplifting the status of smallholder farmers across the country. Through this partnership, Sakchyam is supporting SKBBL to establish a branch office, 40 new Small Farmer Agriculture Cooperatives Limited (SFACL) in Karnali province and digitize 250 SFACLs,” shared Mr. Nirmal Dahal, Team Leader of Sakchyam.
“Tourism and agriculture are two of the most important sectors for the Karnali region, and we are happy to know that a project such as this is focusing on capacitating small farmers’ even more. We hope this partnership will see fruitful results in the coming years,” said Honorable Chief Minister of Karnali Province Mahendra Bahadur Shahi who also officially inaugurated the Sakchyam-supported regional office of SKBBL in Surkhet today.
“With this partnership, it is expected that SFACLs will be able to reach more than 24,000 members and capacitate under-performing cooperatives. Digitization of the SFACLs will also be crucial to capacitate the cooperative and bring efficiency and SKBBL is looking forward to bringing about this impact to the communities,” expressed Dr. Shiva Ram Prasad Koirala, CEO of SKBBL during the event.
Sana Kisan Bikas Laghubitta Bittyasanstha Ltd is an apex microfinance financial institution established in July 2001 to provide wholesale credit along with the technical support services mainly to SFACLs and similar types of organizations.
