As a part of UKaid Sakchyam’s initiative to improve access to financial products and services for rural poor communities, Sakchyam and Janata Bank Nepal Limited launched a partnership – Sakchyam Access to Rural Banking Project at an event today in Kathmandu. Through the partnership, Sakchyam will support Janata Bank in opening 50 new Branch Less Banking touch points in rural outposts of 4 districts – Achham, Dang, Darchula, and Kailali. Sakchyam has put substantial effort into the design and implementation of its branch less banking programme in the 14 earthquake-affected districts and beyond. The roll out of this particular partnership in such rural areas will provide a range of financial services to rural poor communities through a new and secure delivery channel.
The event was chaired by the Chairman of Janata Bank Nepal, MP Mr. Udaya Nepali Shrestha, while the Chief Guest was Deputy Governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank, Mr. Chintamani Shiwakoti. The event also had the presence of senior leadership of both institutions as well as representatives from all major national dailies and television channels.
