RBB and Sakchyam Sign Agreement to Facilitate Concessional Loan for Earthquake 2015 Victims

Kathmandu: Rastriya Banijya Bank Limited (RBB) signed an official agreement with UKaid Sakchyam Access to Finance to facilitate the uptake of concessional loan for the Earthquake 2015 victims in Gorkha and Dhading districts. The agreement was signed by CEO of RBB, Kiran Kumar Shrestha and UKaid Sakchyam Team Leader Nirmal Dahal. CEO of National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), Sushil Gyewali was also present at the event.

Talking at the agreement-signing ceremony, Gyewali mentioned that the distribution of the loan through the bank has ensured the amount reaches to the rightful beneficiaries and have made the whole process efficient and transparent. Shrestha reiterated the bank will assist in the effective implementation of the government’s policies and programmes by providing better access to the concessional loans to the earthquake victims. Dahal expressed his confidence that the agreement will provide further support in the earthquake reconstruction process in the areas.

The bank will facilitate the concessional loan process for the beneficiaries of the Earthquake 2015 through their branches in Dhunibesi and Nilkantha Municipalities in Dhading and Gorkha Municipality in Gorkha. The bank will also undertake promotional campaigns to generate awareness to help the beneficiaries understand the features and process of the loan. Under the agreement, RBB will also conduct financial literacy campaign in Karnali Pradesh, Sudurpaschim Pradesh, and Provinces 2 & 5, to raise awareness about the different Government to Person (G2P) payments through the branches to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. The financial literacy initiatives will be carried out by the 103 RBB branches in the provinces mentioned above.

Sakchyam through its Housing Reconstruction Project (HRP) has been providing support to the NRA in the uptake of the Concessional Loan in three local units each in Gorkha and Dhanding districts.
