Between March 6-9, 2016, Honorable Governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank, Dr. Chiranjibi Nepal, joined the Sakchyam Access to Finance Programme team on a field visit to observe Sakchyam’s work through partnerships with banks and financial institutions. During this time, the Governor observed Sakchyam’s transformative interventions at work to improve access to finance for rural poor communities through initiatives such as the establishment of branch offices in rural outposts and the introduction of tablet devices to improve the efficiency and security of partner institutions’ work with communities. The Governor also engaged directly with women’s saving group members as well as with representatives of banks and financial institutions in the region to listen to their views and suggestions on developments in the local financial sector.
The programme also took the opportunity to have the Governor inaugurate new offices of its partner institutions – Kisan Cooperative and Kisan Microfinance Development Bank in Kailali, as well as its own new satellite office in Nepalgunj. The latter is a fully functional Sakchyam station which has already started its operations in assisting the Kathmandu office to engage more meaningfully with partner organizations working in the region. The Governor also visited Sakchyam’s first satellite office in Amargadhi, Dadheldura. All of these activities and more have been captured in the Nepal Rastra Bank’s newsletter.
