Mahila Sahayatra and Sakchyam Launch Partnership to Expand EDS in Provinces 2 & 3

Kathmandu, June 17: Mahila Sahayatra Microfinance Bittiya Sanstha Ltd and UKaid Sakchyam Access to Finance programme officially launched their new project on June 13 at Langdi, Parsa. The project which intends to scale up the Enterprise Development Service (EDS) in provinces 2 & 3 and also create market linkage with Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) is the second project between Mahila Sahayatra and Sakchyam.

The project partnership certificate was signed and exchanged by Mr Nirmal Dahal, Team Leader of Sakchyam and Dr Sumitra Manandhar Gurung, CEO, Mahila Sahayatra at the event. Mayor of Dhobini Rural Municipality, Suresh Prasad Patel was the chief guest of the event which was also attended by Chamber of Commerce representative Prem Chandra Prasad, chairman of the board of directors of Mahila Sahayatra Bhai Raja Tuladhar, staff and the members of Mahila Sahayatra.

A documentary depicting the different EDS activities conducted by Mahila Sahayatra and the experiences of the clients who had taken part was also showcased at the event. Similarly, a booklet highlighting the progress of EDS and information about the Sakchyam-supported project of Mahila Sahayatra was also launched.

Speaking at the event, Mr Nirmal Dahal, team leader, Sakchyam expressed that the EDS model being replicated in provinces 2 and 3 under the project will benefit from the experience Mahila Sahayatra has gained from its implementation in provinces 5 & 6.  While Dr Sumitra Manandhar Gurung, CEO, Mahila Sahayatra emphasized on the importance of skill-based training along with credit to help the MFI clients in enterprise development.

Under the EDS programme, clients of Mahila Sahayatra can avail services such as technical training, business skill development and business counselling to scale up their enterprises.  Thus, EDS plays an important role in the proper utilization of credit. For market linkage, White Lotus Organic Concern Nepal Limited (WLOC) is assisting Mahila Sahayatra in opening new market venues for the clients’ organic products.

In the first project, Sakchyam supported Mahila Sahayatra in establishing five new branches to serve marginalized communities in Rolpa, Rukum, Salyan, and Surkhet districts. Mahila Sahayatra also introduced EDS and provided skill training to more than 2,000 clients of provinces 5 and 6.
